CHW Mercy Cancer & Imaging Center
Location: Sacramento, CAProject type: Healthcare
Pieces installed: 121
Sq. footage: 32,000
Design task:
Inspired by an Emily Dickinson poem, the interior designer’s theme of “hope” for this flagship facility celebrated Mercy’s all-inclusive model for their new cancer center. ACS sought to uphold this theme through artwork, while creating a cohesive look for Mercy’s two distinct patient care centers housed within the facility.
Key features include:
• Commissioned glass and metal feathers in the entry, which reference imagery in the poem, “Hope.” An engraved plaque featuring the poem was installed near the sculpture.
• Local high school students were invited to submit hope-themed artwork as a way to involve the community. ACS worked with the interior designer to jury and curate the final 19 pieces that became the hope gallery corridor.
