The Sacramento Kaiser Permanente campus has been a significant medical provider serving the diverse community in this region for many years. As we approached a series of refreshes at this important site, including a 11,700 square-foot ED expansion, a key goal of our overall campus master planning was to create visual continuity throughout the buildings, various floors and medical units while reflecting the vibrant community of patients, staff, and families. After working closely with the leadership team to learn about the population utilizing the space, we incorporated those aspects into a commissioned mural at the focal point of the campus. The underlying theme of the 3-story atrium mural is ‘Togetherness’ and features elements that reflect the community and the local area. To achieve our goal of creating an overall cohesive artwork collection throughout the campus, commissioned works from 9 regional artists are featured in the main clinical areas. These are combined with a variety of framed fine art giclées and photography featuring local, regional, and national artists tying together themes across the hospital, MOB, and the various medical departments culminating in a show-stopping 21’ mural from Sacramento artist, Maren Conrad.
